Moroccan donut - Sfenj
Sfenj is similar to a donut, but less sweet. It is spongy and has a golden brown color.
- 3 3/4 cups flour (1/2 kg)
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 2 cups warm water
- 4 1/4 cups oil for cooking (1/2 liter)
- In a large bowl; add flour, yeast, salt with warm water. Mix it well until you get a dough. Knead it until it become spongy. Rub it with oil. Let it rise until it is doubled in size. Form it into small balls. Let if rest for 15 min. Put a hole inside each dough ball. Fry it in a hot pan with oil until it gets a golden color. Flip it over and cook the other side. Put the sfenj in a strainer to drain the oil. Dip the sfenj in sugar to cover both sides.Bon appetit
